My heart and prayers go out to the family of Texas National Guardsman Specialist Bishop Evans, who lost his life when he rescued two migrants from drowning in the Rio Grande last Friday.
The migrants survived. Unfortunately, the strong currents of the Rio Grande swept Evans away, and he drowned. Following a three-day search, dive teams recovered his body on Monday.
On Saturday, the Texas Military Department said in a statement that the two migrants Evans tried to help “were involved in illicit transnational narcotics trafficking. As a result, they remain in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.”
When a reporter questioned Psaki whether the White House felt any responsibility for Mr. Evan’s death, Psaki said Texas, not the Federal Government directed the Texas National Guard to the border. She then says their administration inherited problems from the former president, who invested billions of dollars on a border wall that was never going to work, instead of working on immigration reform.
Psaki was quick to point out that Specialist Evans was sent to the border by Texas as if that takes responsibility from the federal government. However, others do not feel this way, and they are voicing it loud and clear.
Psaki also blamed President Trump and accused him of not working on immigration reform. Her statement is untrue. President Trump worked on making America safe, and that is what the Democrats hated most.
The Trump administration released a framework for legislation to provide legal status and a pathway to citizenship for an estimated 1.8 million people eligible for DACA.
The reporter reminds Psaki that the Texas governor has requested federal assistance on multiple occasions and that the influx of migrants will only increase after Title 42 is lifted next month.
We must continue to insist that our government do a better job securing the border by closing it instead of opening it wide and allowing everybody to enter without proper vetting.
I believe Specialist Evans is a hero. He saw two humans in the Rio Grande drowning, and he did what he thought to be the right thing to do. The men and women who serve at the border and the national guard deployed on the border risk their lives every day. I cannot imagine the things they see and experience daily. Please keep these heroes in your prayers.
