The House of Representatives passed the Assault Weapons ban this week. Next, the vote will move to the Senate, where many suspect the bill will not succeed. Let us hope it does fail. In the House, on Friday evening, legislators narrowly approved the bill with a 217-213 vote.
Langley Outdoors Academy breaks down the Assault Weapons Ban for us.
Five Democrats, Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas; Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas, Rep. Kurt Schrader, D-Oreg., and Rep. Ron Kind, D-Wisc., broke with their party to vote no. Two Republicans, Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Penn., and Chris Jacobs, R-N.Y., turned on the people and voted yes with the Democrats on approval of the ban.
Let’s keep our leaders in our prayers, but keep their feet to the fire. We need to send a clear message to the Republicans, Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Penn., and Chris Jacobs, R-N.Y., who betrayed their party and the people. Call and email them telling them how disappointed we are in them.
According to the bill’s summary, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022 would make it illegal to “knowingly import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon (SAW) or large capacity ammunition feeding device (LCAFD).”
The ban on semiautomatic weapons comes after mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York.
We must pray that the Senate does the right thing and vote this bill down. However, if it is passed through, the fight is not over as I think the Supreme Court should get involved. The Supreme Court’s job is to protect our rights according to the United States Constitution.
May God be with us as we continue the fight for the freedom of our country.
