President Zelensky addresses a joint meeting of Congress on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the Capital in Washington, D.C. In a standing ovation, many members chanted ‘Slava Ukraini’ throughout the speech and held the Ukrainian flag. At the end of the speech, Zelenskyy presented the Ukrainian flag to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., saying that the flag is “the symbol of the victory of this war.”
Pelosi then presented Zelenskyy with a U.S. flag that she said was flown over the Capitol in honor of his visit.
Although many house members celebrated Zelenski’s arrival and speech, some were not entirely enthralled by the Ukrainian President’s speech. After Zelenski’s speech, Rep. Lauren Boebert(R-Colorado) pushed for a full audit of U.S. security assistance. She was not the only member questioning where the money we sent to Ukraine went.
I agree with her sentiments on Ukraine. I do feel sorry for the citizens there that are suffering and dying. However, I agree with her that no more money should be sent to Ukraine without a full audit. I will go further and say that there are many unanswered questions regarding the dispute between Russia and Ukraine. I do not believe we are getting a complete truth about what is occurring in that region. If we are to continue to send millions of dollars to Ukraine, we deserve answers.
But Joe Biden doesn’t care what we Americans think or want. He has already promised to assist Ukraine for as long as it takes. It is a sad day in America when our President cares for another country more than his own.
